WASHINGTON, D.C. (Michigan News Source) – Michigan’s Republican congressional delegation wants to know why Secretary of State Jocelyn Benson is ignoring election integrity concerns.
Benson’s testimony compared to the facts.
GOP Congressmen Tom Barrett, Jack Bergman, Bill Huizenga, John Moolenaar, John James, Tim Walberg, and Congresswoman Lisa McClain sent a letter to Benson demanding answers regarding noncitizens continuing to pop up on Michigan’s voter rolls.

The letter comes three weeks after Macomb County Clerk Anthony Forlini found 14 noncitizens registered to vote in his jurisdiction. Forlini told Michigan News Source last week that he’s confused as to why Benson was angry when he contacted her office with this information since both of them “should be partners in this.”
The letter from GOP Republicans echo a similar tone. It referenced Benson’s September 2024 testimony where she told House Republicans spread false information about election security and accuracy. In addition, it pinpointed Benson’s testimony one month later where she again claimed Republicans made “false and meritless claims” about ineligible voters and insisted on the security of Michigan’s election.

In addition, the letter called out Benson’s confirmation of 15 instances of noncitizens voting in a federal elections in a report she release last year. “Any instance of non-citizens casting a ballot in an election is unacceptable and erodes Michigander’s confidence in the security of their elections,” the letter said. “While you admit you are aware of instances of non-citizen voting you continued to erode public confidence by refusing to comply with a lawful request by the Department of Justice to provide them Michigan’s voter registration data to ensure that Michigan’s voter rolls are being properly maintained. Your refusal to comply with the DOJ’s request and assist in building the public’s confidence in Michigan elections invalidates your statement to the Committee on House Administration.”
In addition, Benson has refused to fully comply with a subpoena from Michigan House Republicans regarding election training instructions she gave to Michigan clerks. Benson, a Democrat, is running for governor of Michigan.
