LANSING, Mich. (Michigan News Source) – Gov. Gretchen Whitmer recently stated the state’s high school graduation rate has improved.
“In 2025, Michigan hit another record high for four-year graduation rates, rising to 84%!” Whitmer posted on her X account this week. “When we invest in students, teachers, and schools, we get more young Michiganders ready to take on the world. I’m so proud of all our students building a brighter future for Michigan.”

But what type of graduating student is the state producing?
The state of Michigan tracks something defined as how many students meet “college readiness benchmarks.”
In 2024-25, 72.5% of students were not college ready in math and 44.6% were not college ready in reading and writing, based on SAT results.
