LANSING, Mich. (Michigan News Source) – Since Dana Nessel took office as attorney general, her office’s full-time employees have increased by 28%.
Nessel took office in January 2019 and the attorney general’s office had 531 full-time employees at that time. The department currently has 679 full-time employees, according to the Senate Fiscal Agency. The data was released Feb. 19.

Her office increased from 621 full-time jobs in 2024-25 to 679 in 2025-26. Those additional 58 jobs were the second largest one-year increase this century for the department. The largest increase was when Nessel added 62 jobs to her department in 2023-24.
Nessel keeps a “federal actions tracker” on her X account. As of Feb. 1, she has listed 45 lawsuits and 22 active injunctions or temporary restraining orders against the Donald Trump administration.
