WEST BLOOMFIELD, Mich. (Michigan News Source) – The Jewish community in Southeast Michigan will be able to strengthen protection and security measures thanks to a $1 million dollar grant earmarked for 50 local organizations.
The gift from the Jewish Federation of Detroit comes two weeks after a terrorist with family ties to Hezbollah rammed his vehicle into Temple Israel in West Bloomfield. He died at the scene before he could carry out any killings, and the 140 Jewish preschoolers and staff at the synagogue that day were physically unharmed.

The $1 million investment comes after millions of dollars have already being spent on security for Jewish organizations across the area. Officials with the Jewish Federation of Detroit said, “These funds will provide grants to expand security personnel and resources at temples and synagogues, schools, camps, and other Jewish communal institutions.”
USA Data Hub reported that 87, 905 Jewish people lived in Michigan as of 2024. Most of them reside in the Detroit area. The Upper Peninsula communities of Marquette, Houghton, and Hancock boast a small Jewish community of around 50 people.
