In addition, Houghton Lake Community Schools placed Collins Elementary School and Houghton Lake Junior/Senior High School into a secure mode.
Houghton Lake Superintendent Ben Williams posted on Facebook on Thursday afternoon, saying “Local law enforcement has determined that the situation at Walmart is now under control and there is no longer the potential for a threat to the surrounding area.
In keeping with this update, HLCS is lifting the secure mode and we will operate as normal for the remainder of the school day.
Out of an abundance of caution, we will have additional staff assisting with student dismissal at the end of the day. All after school activities will take place as originally scheduled.”
