GRAND RAPIDS, Mich. (Michigan News Source) – Longtime West Michigan meteorologist Terri DeBoer wrapped up her television career in February, but her name will continue making headlines in 2026 after she announced she is running for Congress.

On Thursday, DeBoer revealed she has filed paperwork to run as a Republican for Michigan’s 3rd Congressional District. She will seek to unseat incumbent Democratic U.S. Representative Hillary Scholten.

DeBoer spent more than three decades delivering the weather forecast to West Michigan viewers at several television stations, most recently at FOX 17.

In an interview with FOX News announcing her candidacy, DeBoer described herself as a political outsider and said she plans to focus on border security and restoring what she called “fiscal sanity” to Washington.

“I believe that West Michigan is not blue, West Michigan is not red,” DeBoer said. “West Michigan is all about solving the problems that we face, no matter who has those ideas, no matter what side of the aisle they happen to sit on.”

If elected, DeBoer would represent Michigan’s 3rd Congressional District, which includes Grand Rapids and much of Kent County. Congresswoman Scholten has represented the district since 2023.
