DETROIT, Mich. (Michigan News Source) – With Michigan Democrats gearing up for their April 19 endorsement convention at the Huntington Place in Detroit, former Vice President Kamala Harris is set to take center stage in the party’s pre-convention lineup.
Harris will appear at the Women’s Caucus Legacy Luncheon in Detroit on Saturday, April 18 alongside New Jersey Democratic Senator Cory Booker, part of a series of events meant to energize delegates before the real decisions get made.

The buildup also includes the party’s Legacy Dinner to honor Gretchen Whitmer and other party gatherings designed to rally support and set the tone heading into the convention.
At the convention, delegates will be tasked with locking in Democratic nominees across a wide swath of statewide and education-related offices. The party will select one candidate each for secretary of state and attorney general, along with two nominees for the Michigan Supreme Court.
Down-ballot – but still influential – positions are also on the table, including two candidates each for the State Board of Education, Michigan State University Board of Trustees, Wayne State University Board of Governors, and the University of Michigan Board of Regents.
Behind the polished optics and high-profile appearances from Harris, Booker and Whitmer, delegates will ultimately have to decide whether the party’s message – and its chosen slate – can hold up beyond the convention hall. With Republicans already locking in their candidates, Michigan Democrats are now on the clock to turn pre- convention energy into a unified front heading into the November elections.
