GLADSTONE, Mich. (Michigan News Source) – The next Michigan GOP gubernatorial debate is traveling to the Upper Peninsula.

The debate on Saturday, May 2 at the Terrace Bay Hotel in Gladstone will feature four Republicans: former Michigan Attorney General Mike Cox, businessman Perry Johnson, Michigan Senate Minority Leader Aric Nesbitt, and Rev. Ralph Rebandt. Conservative talk show host Steve Gruber will moderate.

Dan Bonamie, member of the First Congressional District Executive Committee & Policy Chairman of the Michigan Republican Party, told Michigan News Source that bringing a gubernatorial debate to Gladstone ensures that GOP candidates “have the opportunity to engage directly with voters across the Upper Peninsula.”

He added, “This upcoming forum will provide not only a structured debate, but also valuable time for attendees to connect with candidates one-on-one, ask questions, and engage in meaningful conversation about the future of our state.”

The most recent GOP gubernatorial debate took place in Oakland County on Thursday, April 30. The four candidates slated for Gladstone also participated in that debate. U.S. Congressman John James did not participate.

Gov. Gretchen Whitmer, a Democrat, cannot run for reelection due to term limits. Secretary of State Jocelyn Benson, Genesee County Sheriff Chris Swanson, Marni Sawicki, and Kim Thomas are running as Democrats. The former Mayor of Detroit, Mike Duggan, is a Democrat who is running as an Independent.
