MIDLAND, Mich. (Michigan News Source) – Michigan’s 35th State Senate District finally has representation.
Democrat Chedrick Greene declared victory on Tuesday night. His win keeps the Democratic party in control of the Michigan Senate until the November election.
Republican Jason Tunney has conceded the election even as official results were being tabulated.
Gov. Gretchen Whitmer waited more than 200 days to call a special election. Former State Senator Kristen McDonald Rivet vacated her seat after being elected to the U.S. House of Representatives in 2024.
Greene’s victory means Democrats will hold a 20-18 majority in the Senate. Republicans have a 58-52 edge in the state House.
