OAKLAND COUNTY, Mich. (Michigan News Source) – The 42-inch water main that burst over the weekend in Oakland County is being repaired, but it could be days or weeks until service is fully restored.
Sunday’s water main break in Auburn Hills prompted a state of emergency for nearby communities, forced the cancellation of classes at local school districts, and triggered evacuations for nursing home residents.

Multiple communities, including Orion Township, Lake Orion, and northern Auburn Hills have little to no water service; residents are encouraged to conserve water until the pipe is repaired. In addition, there is a boil water advisory in place for residents and businesses in Rochester Hills and Oakland Township.
Great Lakes Water Authority officials said the pipe is roughly 50 years old and was expected to last 100 years. Crews have monitored the water main’s conditions since Wednesday, May 6 after discovering a leak.
Orion Township Supervisor Chris Barnett said his department is working to get resources to residents, especially the elderly.
