PRESQUE ISLE COUNTY, Mich. (Michigan News Source) – Firefighters from the Michigan Department of Natural Resources (DNR) and local fire departments say a wildfire is 60% contained in Presque Isle County, but they are continuing to battle the blaze.
The fire ripped through 180 acres and is moving through the southeast end of the Tomahawk Creek Flooding. The cause of the fire is unknown. However, dry and windy weather conditions over the past several days have contributed to the increased fire risk. In addition, downed wood remains in the northern Lower Peninsula from a March 2025 ice storm and is potentially adding to the problem.

Earlier this month, a wildfire in Oscoda County forced the evacuation of residents.
Laurie Abel, public information officer for the DNR’s Incident Management Team, told the media that the wildfire is burning through jack pine, hardwood and a blueberry bog.
No evacuation orders have been made and no homes or structures are considered at risk currently.
