MACKINAC ISLAND, Mich. (Michigan News Source) – Mackinac Island police say a runaway horse injured four people on Monday near a busy downtown intersection.
Investigators say the incident happened just before noon. A horse became startled after a saddle reportedly came loose. It threw off the rider before running down the street and into several people. Crews eventually secured the horse.

Police say medical professionals treated a 20-year-old downstate woman and a 61-year-old Mackinac Island woman for injuries. Two other women, ages 76 and 79, were transported off the island for additional medical treatment.
Horses are the main mode of transportation on Mackinac Island. The community, which sits between the Lower and Upper Peninsulas in Lake Huron, outlawed vehicles in 1898.
