CLINTON TWP., Mich. (Michigan News Source) – The family of murdered Michigan mother Belinda GarDella is planning a public gathering Sunday at St. Peter’s Cemetery in Clinton Township as they continue pushing for answers decades after her killing.

The event is scheduled for noon on Sunday, May 31, the day after GarDella’s birthday, at the cemetery located at 21884 Dunham Road in Clinton Township near Groesbeck Highway and Elizabeth Road.

In a “Justice for Belinda GarDella” Facebook post calling for support, Gardella’s family is asking community members from the Mount Clemens area to attend “for a gathering in honor of our mother.”

“This Saturday is our mother’s birthday, she would be 87 years old,” the family wrote. “Time is up, we the family need justice.”

Gardella was stabbed and murdered in Wayne County in 1983. According to previous reporting, several of her children have publicly said they believe their father was responsible for her death, although no one has ever been charged or convicted in the case.  Kym Worthy, the Wayne County prosecutor, won’t move forward with any charges.

The family says the Michigan Attorney General’s Office has had the case for six months for a review – and no progress has been reported from them either. In the online post, relatives urged supporters to politely contact the AG’s office (517-335-7622) and “ask them to do their job” while continuing to seek justice for their mother.

The gathering comes as families across Michigan continue fighting to keep cold cases from being forgotten.
