DETROIT (Michigan News Source) – Progressive Democratic candidate for U.S. Senate Abdul El-Sayed is repeating calls to abolish U.S. Immigration and Customs Enforcement (ICE).

“[ICE is] an agency that really should not exist,” El-Sayed said on C-SPAN. “I could find a lot better uses for the $252 billion that we have spent to put masked men on our streets. ICE is not about immigration. ICE is not about the southern border. ICE is about normalizing paramilitary force on our streets.”

“There is no reforming. There is no retraining. There is only abolishing ICE.”

El-Sayed is in a three-way race with fellow Democrats State Senator Mallory McMorrow (D-Royal Oak) and U.S. Representative Haley Stevens (MI-11). El-Sayed has presented himself as the party’s progressive choice, and has aligned himself with antisemitic influencer Hasan Piker and “Death to America” Imam Mohammad Ali Elahi.

Michigan’s primary election is Tuesday, Aug. 4.
