GRAND RAPIDS, Mich. (Michigan News Source) – Two Kent County communities are set for key meetings Monday night as residents prepare to weigh in on major data center proposals.

In Solon Township, officials plan to hear public comments on a proposed 800-acre AI data center south of Meijer. Earlier this year, township officials approved a temporary moratorium on new data center proposals after strong community feedback. Leaders are still evaluating zoning rules and weighing questions about long-term impacts on the community and the environment.

Meanwhile, Lowell Township planners will review a site plan tied to a Microsoft-linked data center project.

Both meetings begin at 7 p.m.

The communities are concerned about energy demand, water use, and potential noise if data centers are built in their neighborhoods.

Last week, company officials from Oracle and Related Digital, along with Gov. Gretchen Whitmer, celebrated the groundbreaking of a 1.65 million-square-foot hyperscale data center being built in Washtenaw County’s Saline Township.
