DETROIT (Michigan News Source) – Detroit Lions cornerback Terrion Arnold is facing charges connected to an alleged kidnapping and armed robbery in Tampa, Florida.
The 23-year-old Arnold turned himself in Wednesday night. Tampa police said Arnold faces four counts of kidnapping and four counts of armed robbery. WFLA in Tampa reports police identified Arnold as the “primary conspirator” in the Feb. 4 armed robbery, which involved six other people arrested earlier this year.
Police say the armed robbery left three teens battered after they were held at gunpoint, pistol-whipped and robbed.
Investigators also say the alleged crime involved planning. According to officials, on Feb. 3, Arnold and three others reported that more than $250,000 worth of their property had been stolen from an Airbnb Arnold rented. That same day, Arnold and a co-defendant allegedly coordinated and directed two other associates to lure the victims they believed had stolen the property to an apartment, police said.
Police say the attack was livestreamed to Arnold and two others. Investigators also say a group chat among the defendants shows communication, including directions Arnold allegedly gave the attackers. The group then allegedly forced the victims out of the apartment and into a vehicle driven by Arnold.
Some of the charges carry potential sentences of life in prison.
Arnold’s agent, Denise White, issued a statement to WFLA, saying Arnold “categorically denies any involvement in the matters underlying the allegations made against him and maintains his innocence. There is no credible evidence linking Mr. Arnold to these allegations.”
The Detroit Lions also responded to the allegations, saying, “We are aware of the legal situation regarding Terrion Arnold. We will not comment at this time out of respect for the ongoing legal process,” according to WFLA.
