DETROIT (Michigan News Source) – The FBI arrested eight people on June 10 during raids in Michigan, Illinois, and Wisconsin. Authorities allege the group vandalized property, threw glass jars containing chemicals through windows, and left threatening notes to pressure the University of Michigan and local businesses into divesting from Israel.

Six of the eight had ties to the University of Michigan as current or former students. Current University of Michigan students include 23-year-old Alexander Sepulveda, 21-year-old Amatullah Hakim, and 22-year-old Jonathan Zou. Former students include 24-year-old Mariam Odeh, 26-year-old Paige Feyock, and 23-year-old Zainab Hakim.

Two others have no record of enrollment at the university. All eight face charges of conspiracy to transmit a threat, while two face additional charges.

FBI Special Agent Jennifer Runyan issued a statement.

“No one has the right to threaten, intimidate, or coerce public officials, law enforcement officers, community institutions, or their families,” Runyan said. “In the dead of night, masked and hooded defendants allegedly threw noxious chemicals through the windows of families’ homes and taped demand letters to their front doors. At every step, they attempted to cover their tracks and delete evidence of their crimes.”

Odeh was paid by U.S. Senate candidate Abdul El-Sayed’s campaign in March, according to campaign finance disclosures. Payments of $154 and $593 made on two separate dates were described as salary disbursements.

Two others charged were not enrolled at the University of Michigan but had other ties to the area. Ahmet Korkaya, 28, is enrolled at the Medical College of Wisconsin and previously conducted research at the University of Michigan. Twenty-four-year-old Colin Weger has ties to  Eastern Michigan University and Ann Arbor.

FBI Director Kash Patel addressed the arrests on X.
