DETROIT (Michigan News Source) – Detroit’s new international bridge will open to traffic next week.
Media reports say a ribbon cutting is set for Friday, June 12 on the new six-lane Gordie Howe International Bridge. The bridge, which spans the Detroit River between Detroit and Windsor, Ontario, will open to traffic on Monday, June 15.

The $4.7 billion bridge is staffed and ready, according to to the U.S. Department of Homeland Security (DHS).
Democratic U.S. Sen. Gary Peters questioned DHS Secretary Markwayne Mullin last week about the bridge during a Senate Committee on Appropriations hearing. Peters asked whether U.S. Customs and Border Protection, which is a under the umbrella of DHS, is prepared.
“We have the personnel dedicated, ready to move. The contractor hasn’t signed off on final stuff. He had a deadline of May 1. He didn’t make that deadline, so we’re still waiting on that to take place. We’re prepared. We’re staffed. We’re ready to go,” Mullin said.

The bridge started construction in 2018 and wrapped up earlier this year.
