LANSING, Mich. (Michigan News Source) – A bill before the Michigan House aims to keep track of active-duty service members, veterans, and Michigan National Guard members who are reported missing.
House Bill 5387, introduced by Rep. Cam Cavitt (R-Cheboygan), would establish a “Green Alert” program and update the Senior or Vulnerable Adult Medical Alert Act. Currently, the alert system is used when a senior citizen or vulnerable adult goes missing. The proposed changes would use existing alert systems to notify the public when a veteran or at-risk service member goes missing, similar to Amber Alerts.

“Michigan veterans have dedicated their lives to service,” said Cavitt. “We will never be able to repay that debt, but we can do everything in our power to make sure that we are protecting our veterans here at home.”
He added, “Programs like this have been tried in other states, and they have had clear results showing that these systems help communities find veterans faster. This is a simple program that keeps our veterans safe and treats them with the respect they deserve.”
The bill is now in the Michigan Senate.
