DETROIT (Michigan News Source) – The International Brotherhood of Teamsters and its president announced Friday that they are endorsing Democratic Genesee County Sheriff Chris Swanson for governor.
In a series of posts on X, Swanson thanked the Teamsters. “This is what happens when rank-and-file members have a voice and loyalty leads the way,” he said.
The working class is paying attention. This movement is growing.
Thank you to the @Teamsters and General President Sean O’Brien for this incredible endorsement. Solidarity.

Teamsters President Sean O’Brien called Swanson “a tireless advocate for workers all across Michigan.” He added, “[Swanson] has been one of the only politicians who walks picket lines consistently.”
The endorsement provides a boost to Swanson’s gubernatorial campaign. Earlier this month, the United Auto Workers (UAW) bypassed Swanson and threw its support behind Democratic Secretary of State Jocelyn Benson.
The Republican side of the gubernatorial ballot includes former Attorney General Mike Cox, Congressman John James, businessman Perry Johnson, and Michigan Senate Minority Leader Aric Nesbitt.
Michigan’s primary election is Tuesday, Aug. 4.
