MARQUETTE, Mich. (Michigan News Source) – A greater police and military presence will be visible in Marquette and Sault Ste. Marie next week as multiple agencies conduct a joint training exercise.

According to the Michigan State Police, the exercise will involve U.S. military personnel, law enforcement agencies, and emergency response partners. The training is scheduled for July 27-30 and is designed to strengthen interagency coordination and improve readiness for a wide range of emergency situations.

The exercise begins Monday in Marquette. Training activities will continue Tuesday in the downtown area, near Northern Michigan University, and around the Marquette Harbor.

Personnel and equipment will move from Marquette to Sault Ste. Marie on Wednesday. Commuters may experience temporary traffic delays as military and emergency response vehicles travel between the two cities.

The exercise concludes Thursday in Sault Ste. Marie. Officials say some downtown areas near the Soo Locks may be temporarily restricted during the training.
