WASHINGTON, D.C. (Michigan News Source) – If you’ve ever dreamed of spending the holidays at the White House instead of just admiring it on television, this could be your chance.
First Lady Melania Trump announced Monday that applications are now open for volunteers and performers who want to take part in the 2026 White House Christmas season. Americans from all 50 states and U.S. territories – including Michigan – are invited to apply.
Selected volunteers will help decorate the White House during the week of November 23-29, preparing the historic residence for its annual Christmas celebration. Applicants must be at least 18 years old, and each person must submit an individual application. The deadline to apply is 5 p.m. ET on Friday, Aug. 28.
Musicians, choirs and school bands welcome.
The White House is also accepting applications from performers for its December holiday open houses. School bands, choirs, orchestras and other holiday-themed entertainers are encouraged to apply for an opportunity to perform for visitors throughout the Christmas season.
While the opportunity offers a once-in-a-lifetime experience, volunteers and performers should be aware that they are responsible for paying their own travel, lodging and other personal expenses.

Each year, hundreds of volunteers from across the country help transform the White House into one of America’s most recognizable Christmas displays. This year’s announcement continues that tradition under President Donald Trump and First Lady Melania Trump, who are inviting Americans to play a hands-on role in decorating “The People’s House.”
Michiganders interested in participating can submit their applications here before the August deadline and, if selected, could find themselves celebrating Christmas at one of the nation’s most iconic addresses instead of just admiring it from afar.
