LANSING, Mich. (Michigan News Source) – A new statewide poll from Quantus Insights shows Democratic U.S. Senate candidate Abdul El-Sayed leading the three-way race over U.S. Rep. Haley Stevens and state Sen. Mallory McMorrow, 41% to 36% to 8%.

Quantus conducted its poll June 29-30, 2026, just two weeks after a Mitchell Research & Communications Inc. poll found El-Sayed (42%) with a strong lead over Stevens (33%) and McMorrow (6%).

Steve Mitchell, with Mitchell Research & Communications, said Quantus’ findings are worth noting.

“Quantus Insights was ranked 14th in accuracy by ActiVote in the 2024 General Election, one position below Mitchell Research, which was 13th,” he said. “Not only did Quantus confirm the fact that El-Sayed had jumped into the lead, it also confirmed the fact that the McMorrow campaign had fallen into single digits.”

Mitchell said the results also point to a growing trend nationwide.

“Progressive socialists won 3 Congressional primaries in New York and another in Colorado,” he said. “This nationalist movement to the left within the Democratic Party is now becoming evident in Michigan.”

The poll comes as U.S. Rep. Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez (AOC) announced her endorsement of El-Sayed. In response, the Michigan GOP issued a statement calling El-Sayed a “terrorist sympathizing phony physician.”

Greg Manz, Senior Communications Advisor, Michigan GOP, said AOC’s endorsement was not surprising.

“It takes one unhinged, radical socialist to spot another, and Abdul El-Sayed has made it clear he’d rather push the reckless Green New Scam that would kill Michigan auto manufacturing jobs and support dangerous immigration policies that would allow illegal, criminal invaders into Michigan neighborhoods than protect hardworking Michigan families,” Manz said.

Tuesday’s WOOD TV8 debate will be a pivotal moment for the Democratic field. Stevens, despite the backing of Senate Minority Leader Chuck Schumer, will be under pressure to generate momentum with primary voters. Meanwhile, political observers are watching whether McMorrow can gain traction. If she doesn’t, speculation is likely to grow that the race could narrow to a two-candidate showdown between El-Sayed and Stevens.
