DETROIT (Michigan News Source) – Michigan is proving itself to be a battleground state once again as President Donald Trump heads to the state Monday for a rally aimed at helping elect Republican candidates, including John James.

President Donald Trump will campaign in Oakland County on Monday, July 27. His visit comes as early in-person voting gets underway for the Aug. 4 primary.

Republicans will choose nominees for governor, U.S. Senate, and local offices. Trump-endorsed Congressman John James faces businessman Perry Johnson in the GOP gubernatorial primary.

Trump carried Michigan in 2016 and 2024. The state is expected to play a central role in the 2026 midterm elections.

On the Democratic side of the ballot, the U.S. Senate race is shaping up to be competitive. U.S. Rep. Haley Stevens and progressive candidate Abdul El-Sayed are battling for the party’s nomination. The winner will face former U.S. Rep. Mike Rogers, who narrowly lost to now-Sen. Elissa Slotkin in 2024.
