LAKE CITY, Mich. (Michigan News Source) – Michigan State Police officials have identified the relationships among those involved in the Aug. 14 Missaukee County mass shooting, but they still don’t have a motive.

Officials said the three people found dead at a home on South LaChance Road were 45-year-old Shane McGowan, 40-year-old Amanda Everitt and 16-year-old Eric Thomas. According to Michigan State Police, Everitt and McGowan were in a relationship. The suspect, 39-year-old Chad Hickman, and McGowan were acquaintances.

The body of 53-year-old John Schwartz was found at a separate home. His daughter, 29-year-old Heather Schwartz, was found dead in a wooded area near Whitlock Lake alongside Hickman. Heather Schwartz was Hickman’s half-sister.

The lone survivor, 13-year-old Bella Padilla-Everitt, called 911 after she was critically injured in the shooting. She is recovering from surgery at a Grand Rapids hospital and is in stable condition.

Meanwhile, services will be held this week for Amanda Everitt and Eric Thomas. In lieu of flowers, the family said memorial contributions may be made to Bella’s Care Fund at Huntington Bank.
