MUSKEGON HEIGHTS, Mich. (Michigan News Source) – A federal and state raid on Muskegon Heights City Hall last month has led to the city’s former fire chief and interim city manager being arrested and charged with three criminal counts.

In addition to being arraigned this week, Shawnderick Roberson also lost his job with the city. Muskegon County Prosecutor D.J. Hilson said Roberson turned himself in to face controlled substance and state tax evasion charges.

Court records identify Roberson’s drug charge date as Jan. 1, 2021, while the tax evasion charges span from 2020 to 2026.

However, that’s not the end of the story. Those three state-level charges are “in conjunction with the federal drug indictments coming from the U.S. Attorney’s Office involving individuals in the related investigation,” the prosecutor said in a release.

According to a release from the city, it will “continue to cooperate with all lawful requests from federal, state, and local law enforcement authorities.” Officials added, “Police Chief Maurice Sain will continue serving as Acting City Manager.”

In addition, Hilson said the charges are the start of a “very thorough” investigation. State investigators continue to “review hundreds of documents” and interview several witnesses, Hilson said. Upon completion of that review, Hilson’s office will meet with police to determine whether there are any other state law violations.
