GRAND HAVEN, Mich. (Michigan News Source) – One month after a mother and her six children were killed in a horrific murder-suicide, their family will gather Monday to celebrate seven lives cut tragically short.

A Celebration of Life for Amanda “Mandy” Karolkiewicz, 39, and her children Keegan, 15; Bennett, 12; Caroline, 11; Ella, 11; Smith, 11; and Theodore “Teddy,” 5, will be held at 11 a.m. Monday, Aug. 24, at Harvest Vertical Church’s Grand Haven Campus.

“This Monday…we will lay our precious family to rest here on earth, knowing they have been in their new heavenly bodies with our Lord Jesus Christ for a month already,” a family member wrote while inviting the public to attend or watch by livestream.

Authorities say Kristopher Karolkiewicz fatally shot his wife and all six children before killing himself. The family was discovered after emergency crews responded to a fire at their Grand Haven Township home on Friday, July 24. Autopsies determined all eight died from gunshot wounds.

Mandy, an educator and author, was remembered for her humor, compassion and devotion to her children. Keegan, the oldest, was outgoing and protective of his siblings. Bennett loved fishing, hunting and history. Caroline was an avid reader, athlete and musician. Ella was artistic, fashionable and soft-spoken. Smith loved beaches, swimming and caring for little Teddy. And Teddy, a rising kindergartener, was an energetic little boy who loved cars, boxing gloves and motorcycle rides with his grandfather.

Monday’s service will focus not on how the seven died, but on how they lived — and the legacy their family says they left behind.
