LAKE CITY, Mich. (Michigan News Source) – Michigan State Police released the names of those involved in last week’s mass shooting in Missaukee County after officials completed autopsies on the five victims and the shooter.
Officials said the three people found dead at the South LaChance Road home were 45-year-old Shane McGowan, 40-year-old Amanda Everitt and 16-year-old Eric Thomas. A 13-year-old girl injured at the home remains hospitalized in stable condition. Her family identified her as Bella Everitt.

A man found dead at a second home in Missaukee County was identified as 53-year-old John Schwartz.
The woman found in a wooded area near Whitlock Lake was identified as 29-year-old Heather Schwartz. She was found alongside the shooter, 39-year-old Chad Hickman. Officials say Hickman knew each of his victims but didn’t indicate how.
Michigan State Police Lt. Ashley Miller praised Bella Everitt’s bravery.
“The 13-year-old young woman who was shot displayed remarkable courage and strength,” Miller said in a statement to the media. “Even after being critically injured, she was able to call 911 for help, which ultimately saved her life.”
The case remains under investigation.
