WASHINGTON, D.C. (Michigan News Source) – Another attempt to impeach President Donald Trump went down in flames Tuesday, but four Michigan Democrats weren’t ready to send this one to the congressional recycling bin.

The House voted 232-147 to table Rep. Al Green’s latest impeachment resolution, with another 47 members voting present. Because the vote was on whether to table the resolution, a “yea” killed the effort while a “nay” kept Green’s impeachment push alive.

Michigan Democratic Reps. Debbie Dingell, Haley Stevens, Shri Thanedar and Rashida Tlaib all voted nay, opposing the motion to table and therefore voting to keep the impeachment resolution alive.

Michigan Republicans Jack Bergman, Tom Barrett, Bill Huizenga, John James, Lisa McClain, John Moolenaar and Tim Walberg voted to table it.

But not every Michigan Democrat was interested in another round of impeachment proceedings. Democratic Reps. Hillary Scholten and Kristen McDonald Rivet joined Republicans in voting to shut down Green’s effort. They were among just 18 Democrats nationwide who voted outright to table the resolution. Overall, 147 Democrats voted against tabling it, while 46 Democrats voted present.

Impeachment: The Sequel to the Sequel to the Sequel

Green’s resolution accused Trump of high crimes and misdemeanors over his administration’s immigration enforcement policies and the conduct of ICE and Customs and Border Protection.

Green has made impeachment something of a recurring congressional event. The Washington Post reported this was his eighth impeachment attempt overall and fourth since Trump returned to the White House.

So while the latest impeachment resolution is officially dead, most of Michigan’s Democratic delegation offered a pretty clear snapshot that the idea is still a good one in their minds. And if the Democrats win control of the House and Senate in November, there will be more of the same.
