ST. IGNACE, Mich. (Michigan News Source) – A two-vehicle crash on the Mackinac Bridge early Wednesday morning injured four people and led to a reckless driving arrest.

Michigan State Police said on social media that several vehicles drove through the toll booths and headed south on I-75. “As the vehicles exited the toll area, they quickly accelerated and began driving recklessly at high rates of speed,” the post said.

One driver rear-ended another vehicle near an active construction area on the bridge, where traffic was reduced to one lane. Police believe speed and alcohol were factors in the crash.

Two people were seriously injured, and two others suffered non-life-threatening injuries. All four were treated at a local hospital.

Police arrested a 28-year-old man from Jamaica who had been living and working seasonally in the area. He was lodged in the Mackinac County Jail on a charge of reckless driving causing serious impairment of a body function.

Authorities may seek additional charges pending the results of the investigation and review by the Mackinac County prosecutor.
