LANSING, Mich. (Michigan News Source) – Republican U.S. Senate candidate Mike Rogers received another high-profile show of support Friday night as President Donald Trump reaffirmed his endorsement of the former congressman.

Trump announced his support on social media, calling Rogers a “proud defender of our country.” He said the Army veteran and former FBI special agent would “help us cut taxes [and] defend the Michigan auto industry.”

Trump issued a slew of endorsements Friday night.

Meanwhile, Democratic U.S. Senate candidate Abdul El-Sayed responded on social media, calling Rogers a “sock puppet” of the president.

Earlier this week, Rogers received an endorsement from The Detroit News. The newspaper’s editorial board previously backed U.S. Rep. Haley Stevens over El-Sayed in the Aug. 4 Democratic primary.

On Tuesday, former Vice President Kamala Harris will travel to Michigan to campaign with El-Sayed. The two are scheduled to participate in a roundtable discussion focused on Black maternal health.
