LANSING, Mich. (Michigan News Source) –  Severe thunderstorms hammered much of Michigan on Thursday and continued into Friday morning, with Southeast Michigan reporting the worst damage.

Strong winds knocked down trees and power lines, leaving more than 265,000 DTE Energy customers without power Thursday night.

The hardest-hit areas included Oakland, Wayne and Livingston counties. Howell recorded wind gusts of up to 70 mph, while Brighton Township reported downed trees, power outages and road closures. In Detroit, flooding temporarily blocked lanes of eastbound I-94 near Gratiot Avenue.

A large tree fell on a house in Madison Heights, while another tree landed on a car in Center Line.

In Ingham County, conservative radio host and Real America’s Voice commentator Steve Gruber received an emergency alert on his phone during an interview Thursday afternoon.

The National Weather Service issued tornado warnings in Washtenaw, Midland, Saginaw and St. Clair counties. As of Friday morning, officials had not confirmed that a tornado touched down.
