WASHINGTON, D.C. (Michigan News Source) – Democrats captured control of both chambers of Congress Tuesday night, setting the stage for a contentious final two years of President Donald Trump’s administration.

Democrats flipped at least seven Republican-held Senate seats, securing a majority after entering Election Day with a 53-47 Republican advantage. They also won control of the House, although several races remain undecided.

The new Democratic majorities will take power when the 120th Congress convenes on January 3, 2027.

Trump told The New York Times, “We’ll work with the Democrats, and we’ll, you know, look forward to working with them. We’ll probably work something out.”

With Republicans losing their grip on Capitol Hill, the next two years will most likely bring legislative gridlock, political investigations and an increasingly contentious battle over Trump’s remaining agenda.

The Democrats are expected to use their newfound congressional majorities to investigate the Trump administration and his family, block Republican legislative priorities, and pursue impeachment proceedings. Their agenda could also include congressional hearings examining ICE and the Department of Homeland Security (DHS), more investigations into the Epstein files, and a host of other issues that will put the White House on the defensive.
