LANSING, Mich. (Michigan News Source) – Michigan voters delivered decisive but different verdicts on the state’s two ballot proposals, rejecting Proposal 1 while overwhelmingly approving Proposal 2, according to unofficial results from the Associated Press who called the two races around 9:40 p.m. on November 3.
Proposal 1, which would have convened a constitutional convention in 2027, was rejected by 75.5% of voters, while 24.5% voted yes. Any constitutional revision drafted by the convention would have required subsequent voter approval.
The convention question automatically appears on Michigan’s ballot every 16 years. It is next scheduled to appear in 2042.
Proposal 2, known as “Money Out of Politics,” received 81.3% support.
The measure prohibits certain campaign contributions from regulated electric and gas utilities, contractors with more than $250,000 annually in government contracts, and people and organizations with substantial connections to those businesses.
It also expands disclosure requirements for political communications, including online advertising.
Results remain unofficial pending certification.
