Military family steps in

With no relatives attending the ceremony, fellow veterans stepped in to honor them.

Veterans Jake Wassenaar and Neldin Emans held American flags during the service, standing alongside their fellow veterans one more time.

“We’re here to honor them and thank them for their sacrifice. And that’s why we’re here. To make sure they’re remembered. They don’t go alone,” Wassenaar, a Navy veteran, told WILX.

“They died alone. But we ain’t gonna let them pass alone,” Emans told the station.
