Supporters raised the money after Governor Gretchen Whitmer’s administration and Attorney General Dana Nessel threw Hackney in jail for refusing to follow their coronavirus orders. Hackney continued to offer dine-in service after the Whitmer administration bumped restaurants back to take-out only.

Michigan State Police troopers arrested Hackney early Friday morning on her way to her restaurant, which she refused to close.

Hackney’s husband is reportedly paying her fine on Monday.
