KALAMAZOO, Mich. (Great Lakes News) – A Kalamazoo County chiropractor running to unseat Gov. Gretchen Whitmer has raised more money than any other Republican vying for that spot.
According to a filing released Monday, Soldano has raised almost $625,000 to date. It’s the most of any Republican candidate combined so far.
Garrett Soldano threw his hat in the ring after vehemently opposing Governor Whitmer’s COVID-19 emergency orders.
Soldano has spent more than $249,000 on staff, consulting, and video production and boasts more than $375,000 in cash on hand. Governor Whitmer has raised more than 14-million dollars during this election cycle, with $10.7 million in cash on hand.
Former Detroit Police Chief James Craig is not part of this report since he formed his candidate committee last week.
The second GOP contender with the highest amount in his fundraising coffers is Ralph Rebandt who has raised roughly $170,000.
In an email obtained by Great Lakes News, Rebandt asked for and received the endorsement of the Southeastern Michigan Association of Chief’s of Police. Rebandt has been a long time chaplain and active member. He received the endorsement several months before Chief Craig announced his candidacy, and he has not officially sought the organization’s support.
Other GOP candidates looking for a spot on the ballot include Articia Bomer, Austin Chenge, Tudor Dixon, Ryan Kelley, Bob Scott, and Evan Space. Fundraising amounts for all candidates can be found by entering their information here.
