HOWELL, Mich. (Great Lakes News) – State Rep. Jewell Jones (D – Inkster), who has been in and out of court since April and now sits in jail, has been ordered to undergo a psychiatric evaluation.
Livingston County Judge Michael Hatty ordered the evaluation on Friday.

Jones will be jailed until at least Oct. 15.
In addition, Jones has been stripped of his legislative committee assignments.
House Speaker Jason Wentworth (R-Farwell) released a statement Thursday on his decision to remove Jones from his House committee assignments following new allegations that Jones brought a handcuff key into the Livingston County jail earlier this week. That resulted in new felony charges.
“Action must be taken to protect the public’s interest,” Wentworth said.
The Livingston County Sheriff said Jones had a handcuff key taped to the bottom of his foot and called Jones “a piece of work.”
