LANSING, Mich. (Great Lakes News) – De-escalation training among nearly a dozen police departments in Michigan have been given the green light along with some green to help carry it out.
Gov. Gretchen Whitmer announced the Michigan State Police received a $182,000 grant to support de-escalation training and reduce violent crime.

Eleven other local agencies across the state are being awarded more than $1 million total.
In a June 2020 interview with The Root on Instagram, Gov. Whitmer said she supports the “spirit” of efforts to defund the police.
