LANSING, Mich. (Great Lakes News) – Michigan is getting a new state unemployment agency director.

Julia Dale’s appointment comes after two years of criticism of Michigan UIA heads Liza Estlund Olsen and Steve Gray.

Gray resigned last November and received a cash settlement. News of Gray’s payout came at a time when questions popped up regarding two other state employee resignations, including former Michigan Department of Health and Human Services Director Robert Gordon.

Unemployment payouts proved difficult during Gray and Olsen’s tenures, particularly during the COVID-19 pandemic.

In addition, critics said fraudulent claims weren’t addressed properly.
