LANSING, Mich. (Great Lakes News) – On Monday, Gov. Gretchen Whitmer called on the Michigan Catastrophic Claims Association (MCCA) to deliver refund checks to every Michigander with auto insurance.

Whitmer claims the refund is possible in part because of the 2019 auto insurance reform she signed into law.

In addition, Whitmer says the reform bill saves drivers money by guaranteeing lower rates for eight years and lets them choose personal injury protection options.

According to its website, the MCCA is a private unincorporated, nonprofit association created by the Michigan Legislature in 1978. Until the implementation of the 2019 auto reform law, Michigan’s no-fault insurance law required vehicle owners and registrants to buy unlimited lifetime coverage for medical expenses resulting from motor vehicle accidents.
