LANSING, Mich. (Great Lakes News) – As winter approaches, the Michigan Department of Transportation (MDOT) has a message for drivers:  fewer snowplow drivers means tougher driving conditions.

MDOT’s Mark Geib says they don’t have enough people to drive the plows or salt trucks. He said that will mean fewer roads can be cleared, which means drivers will see worse conditions.

Michigan is not alone; most states and cities nationwide are looking at snowplow driver shortages.

Geib says the shortage will be felt the most in Michigan’s larger communities.
