ST. JOSEPH, Mich. (Great Lakes News) – The EPA is testing the water in Benton Harbor.
Federal teams are testing the water in at least 300 homes in the Berrien County community. Officials are looking to see if local leaders are complying with the order to clean up water supplies and pipes across the state.

None of the 300 homes have water filters.
Part of the assessment will be to determine if Benton Harbor should have its water plant taken away.
Michigan Gov. Gretchen Whitmer has faced harsh criticism for what some are calling a sluggish response to Benton Harbor’s water woes.
Edward Edwardney, head of the Benton Harbor Community Water Council, told Fox News in October that Whitmer should have responded to the crisis three years ago, which would have been about the time Michigan voters elected her to the state’s top job.
Edwardney also told Fox News that Whitmer’s response came after his group filed a petition with the EPA which cited the fact that the 2022 election year is approaching.
