WASHINGTON (Great Lakes News) – This year’s tax filing season will begin on January 24, seventeen days earlier than last year.

The Internal Revenue Service (IRS) is citing a surge in COVID-19 cases as one of the reasons for the early start.

Agents also claim the IRS is receiving less funding authorization from Congress.

The deadline for tax returns to be filed is Monday, April 18.
