EAST LANSING, Mich. (Great Lakes News) –  Michigan State University is now installing temporary fencing along parts of the Red Cedar River.

The action comes after the death of 18-year-old Brendan Santo. The Grand Valley State University freshman went missing on Oct. 29. His body was found in the Red Cedar River on January 21.

MSU started the process last week along openings to the river and installation will continue this week.

In the meantime, school officials said they will work on more permanent solutions to enhance safety on campus.
