WASHINGTON (Great Lakes News) – House Democrats in Washington, D.C. have introduced multiple proposals which would send direct payments to Americans to help cover high gas prices.

The plans are similar to the one that sent $1400 stimulus checks to millions of Americans during the last year. Those checks were intended to cover costs associated with the COVID-19 pandemic.

The national daily average for gasoline has been more than $4 per gallon for two weeks.

As of Tuesday, AAA Michigan reported the average price for a gallon of gas in the Great Lakes State hovered at $4.24.
