SAULT SAINT MARIE, Mich. (Great Lakes News) – The U.S. Coast Guard is confirming that an oil spill has forced the St. Mary’s River to close shipping traffic from the Soo Locks down to 9 Mile Point.
The more than 5,000 gallon spill on Thursday is from Algoma Steel in Canada. Officials say an oil sheen has been reported on the north side of Sugar Island.
