ANN ARBOR, Mich. (Michigan News Source) – Rose Bowl Champion coach Gary Moeller passed away on Monday, July 11 at the age of 81. He spent 23 years associated with Michigan and won three Big Ten Championships.
Moeller was a 1963 graduate of The Ohio State University before heading north to Michigan. He was on Bo Schembechler’s staff at Miami University and came him to Michigan in 1969 with him. In 1990, Michigan named him their new head coach and in five seasons he went 44-13-3 with a 1993 Rose Bowl win. He guided the Wolverines to five bowl appearances and top 20 finishes in the final poll. One record he set in the Big Ten from 1990 to 1992 was winning 19 consecutive conference games.

Coach Moeller cared for his players and his teams and was devoted to the University of Michigan. He gave a lot to the game of football, excelling as both an offensive and defensive coordinator and head coach in the college and NFL ranks. We have lost a wonderful family man. My thoughts and prayers are with his wife, Ann, as well as their daughters Susan, Amy and Molly, and my former teammate and fellow captain Andy. Rest in peace, Coach Mo, and Go Blue!”
There will be a visitation at Chiles-Laman Funeral Home in Lima, Ohio, on Friday, July 15, from 2-8 p.m. He is survived by his wife, Ann, three daughters, Susan, Amy, and Molly, and son Andy.
