LANSING, Mich. (Michigan News Source) –  Cosmetic treatments like Botox and dermal fillers could see more stringent regulations under a bill introduced in the Michigan Senate.

Under Senate Bill 1068, these types of treatments could only be administered by a physician, physician’s assistant or nurse practitioner.

Sen. Paul Wojno (D-Warren) is sponsoring the bill and said unlike other states, Michigan doesn’t have proper legislation in place to enforce regulations surrounding these injectable treatments.

The American Society of Plastic Surgeons reported that more than 4.4 million Botox treatments were administered in 2020 and 3.4 million filler treatments were given that year as well.

In addition to cosmetic reasons, Botox treatments are also given to people suffering from severe migraines, chronic sweating, or muscle spasms.
