The announcement came just hours after former Republican governor hopeful Ralph Rebandt announced his intention to seek the second in command post at Saturday’s GOP convention.

The former pastor said in a press release, “After thoughtful consideration and prayer I accept the request and support from delegates, county chairs, and citizens to run for the nomination of Lieutenant Governor of Michigan at the August 27th Republican Convention.”
Rebandt received 4.1% of the vote in the August 2 primary. Ryan Kelley, who has yet to concede the election, received 15.06%.
Garrett Soldano, the self-proclaimed “grassroots candidate,” received 17.51% of the vote. He announced on Facebook that he planned to “talk it over with [my wife] and the kids and stay in prayer” regarding a possible bid for Lieutenant Governor, but announced Monday he has decided against it.
Kevin Rinke, who earned 21.5% to Dixon’s 39.69%, has remained out of the political spotlight since primary night when he congratulated Dixon on her victory.
The GOP convention is this weekend in Lansing. The general election is November 8.
